Arrest were made...

Three Zimbabwean human rights activist were arrested earlier this week. They were said to be arrested for their legitimate work advocating for media reforms and freedom of expression in Zimbabwe. They were charged with contravening the Public Order and Security Act for participating in a gathering without seeking authority from a regulating authority. And for also allegedly contravening the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act by distributing material that is likely to provoke a breach of peace.

Boy ran over

Mourning the death of a family member killed in a motor accident, results in a boy being ran over. The boy was in the bed of a pickup with many other members of the family, when he fell out. It wasn’t said how he fell out, or why, but the driver who ran the boy over, said that the boy (along with the rest of the passengers) was jumping around, dancing before he fell out. Police who investigated said the man who ran the boy over reports the accident right away, and is not at fault for the accident.

The boy who is a 19-year old junior high school dropout, was not seriously hurt by being ran over. The hospital reported that his thighs were the direct area that got hit, and he was very fortunate not to sustain any serious injuries. After the boy was ran over, the man who ran him over rushed him to the nearest hospital. He was then sent to another hospital so medical students could see the wounds. The family is extremely lucky they didn’t have to mourn another family member so soon due to motor accident.

Murder

A woman in Ghana is being tried for murder. She allegedly stabbed a man at his home with a knife several times before fleeing to her hide out. The man made a distressed call to the nearest hospital, and was transferred there by a man who saw three people fleeing. After being taken to the hospital, the man, Tagoe Agbozo, 47 of Agbezukpekope, later died from the wounds. He was stabbed more than 4 times, 3 of which landed in the rib area, which were the main wounds that led to his death.

Nice Mensah, is a 21-year-old woman who may face being imprisoned for the rest of her life. The report said that she had went to the man’s house with her husband to dispute something. Mensah, her husband, and her brother-in-law were the three seen fleeing by a passer by. The police discovered Mensah and her brother-in-law in the hideout and took them into custody. They are searching for her husband, meanwhile, she stands trial awaiting her verdict.

High Kerosene prices= High cost of living

In Nigeria, the means of cooking and powering homes, and many other things comes by means of kerosene. Within the past month, Nigeria’s government has nearly doubled the price of this crutial gas, making simple everyday tasks like cooking an impossibly difficult task. The local markets were selling kerosene for 50 Nigerian dollars before, and now, Nigerians can no longer purchase the gas there. They restricted the Nigerian people to buy it only at certain filling stations that have the prices jacked up nearly twice the normal rate.

With Christmas right around the corner, many families who can no longer afford the rate, may be seeking for aid on the holidays. Nigeria has crude oil, but are expending their means to import foreign oils, which in return is raising prices for locals. The nation has upset the people, and the people are left to be upset. Due to the high price, many people are seeking the electric stove route, with only one problem… No electricity. Something has got to give, either the gas price, or the introduction of technology.

New homes

Due to war in Africa, refugees are fighting to find a new home.  Many African’s are said to be crossing into Israel land, to seek protection from their country.  War torn Africa is not a stable area to live, and for many families, work is easier to find in other countries.  Israel in response is believed to begin construction of a border fence.  The fence is said to be built to keep out the 2,000 Africans breaching their borders each month.
The construction cost being $167 million.  The Israeli Prime Minister has claimed the immigrants to be a “National Epidemic”.  They are trying to gain speed in the construction before it becomes “too late” to act on.  Along with a fence, they are building detention centers to hold the immigrants, and are going to issue fines to anyone caught giving the immigrants work.

"I'm searching for my mother's head"

In Kaduna, Africa, a twenty-two year old man is searching for the rest of his mother’s body.  The powerful explosion decapitated Bashir Adegun’s step mother, and also took the lived of many others.  He was manually digging through the rubble with his hands and shovels for days, before heavy machinery was brought in to relieve people who had been working for days.  Bashir was said to be very upset, saying that in order to peacefully put his mother in the ground for her funeral, her head had to be found first.
The explosion was never identified in the news article, and an exact number of people killed or injured was never stated.  A small boy was discovered on the third day of clean up, alive, had been trapped under rubble without food and water for days.  He was six years old, and he was recovered beneath tons and tons of rubble, but was found alive.  Many people’s limbs, heads, and other body parts were discovered.  Bringing more hope to Bashir, that he will recover his step-mothers head. You can read up on the story here.

Same sex relations.....

Up to November 15, 2011, gay sex relations and sex with animals resulted in 14 years in jail in Nigeria.  The nation voted this way after having an ultimatum given to them by the US and Britain.  The United States senate however appealed Nigeria’s law, and with success, passed laws stating it is no longer illegal for same sex relations and bestiality.  It may not be that they “legalized” it, but the legislation removes the law act that would prior convict one who makes love with animals.
Before they passed this bill, if you were aiding, or favoring someone who is gay, you would also be sentenced to 10 years for aiding a criminal.  The laws that had once been in rule by Nigeria, was originally passed by Great Britain.  The similarity and irony in the fact that Great Britain held an ultimatum over Nigeria’s head, for a law that once had been originated by Great Britain themselves.  I think the law should stay for the homosexuals, but maybe they should revise the “having sex with animals” part.
